Coming of Age in Mexico

This is the beautiful young lady who celebrated her 15th birthday or Quinceanera, which is a coming of age party! In times of past centuries, the girl would be introduced as marriageable. This was pre-industrialization when families were very large. Now families are smaller and the proud parents who lovingly raised their daughter are presenting her letting the world know she has a future ahead of her. That she can choose anything she wishes for her life. I think of my own Dad, who said of his two redheaded daughters, "that his wealth in life resided in his two daughters beautiful heads." The parents of this lovely young woman feel that they are fortunate in the joy of their daughter and this introduction represents all the dreams they had when she was born. This is an absolutely lovely tradition, we had the best time celebrating with them and Abulitos Luz María Sepúlveda (my hermanita) and Jose Testa (the dear husband of Luz of whom we are also very close.) We are the honorary Tio David and Tia Melanie!
